Analisis Tingkat Motivasi dan Self-Confidence Atlet Biliar
Background: Billiards is a concentration-based sport requiring technical accuracy, tactical decisions, emotional control, motivation, and self-confidence. Purpose: This study aims to describe the motivation and self-confidence levels of billiard athletes in Cianjur Regency. Methods: A quantitative descriptive survey design was used with a five-point Likert questionnaire covering goal setting, effort and perseverance, self-belief, and self-control. Data analysis was performed through coding, reverse scoring, Cronbach alpha, descriptive statistics, score categorization, and SPSS/Excel visualization. Results: Ten billiard athletes participated (9 male, 1 female; aged 15-61 years). The instrument showed high internal consistency (Cronbach alpha = 0.909 for motivation, 0.906 for self-confidence, and 0.955 for the total scale). Both variables fell into the high category, with a mean motivation of 53.90 (71.87%) and a mean self-confidence of 55.10 (73.47%). Half of the athletes were classified as high and 30% as very high on motivation, while 60% were high and 30% very high on self-confidence. A Spearman test indicated a very strong, significant positive correlation between motivation and self-confidence (rho = 0.972; p < 0.001). Conclusion: Billiard athletes in Cianjur Regency demonstrated high motivation and self-confidence; given the small sample, these findings are preliminary and should be confirmed with a larger respondent group to guide evidence-based mental training.
