Intervensi Fisioterapi pada Cedera Meniskus tanpa Operasi
Background: Meniscus tears are common knee orthopedic conditions that cause pain, edema, limited range of motion (ROM), and decreased functional activity. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of combining electrotherapy and exercise therapy for meniscus tears. Methods: This study used a case report design with a single-subject research approach focusing on Mr. X (42 years old) diagnosed with a non-operative right meniscus tear. The intervention spanned 3 sessions, incorporating Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS), Ultrasound (US), and exercise therapy (quadsets, wall slides, heel slides, lateral leg raises, clam shells, and prone hamstring curls). Evaluations were conducted using the NPRS, goniometer, MMT, meter line, and the KOOS questionnaire. Results: After 3 sessions, there was a reduction in pain (motion pain decreased from 5/10 to 1/10), an increase in knee flexion ROM, and a 2 cm reduction in patellar edema. The functional activity score (KOOS) increased from 65.2 to 69, though muscle strength (MMT) showed no significant improvement (remaining at grade 4). Conclusion: The combination of electrotherapy and exercise therapy is effective in reducing pain, alleviating edema, and improving ROM in meniscus tears. However, the short intervention duration was insufficient to significantly enhance muscle strength. Early physical therapy is highly recommended to prevent future risks of early osteoarthritis.
